Days to first harvest: 50–70 days from sowing
Optimal temperature: 16°C–26°C — performs well in Zambia’s moderate to warm conditions
Lifespan: Grown as a single-cycle crop, but staggered planting allows for continuous harvest throughout the season
Sunlight: Full sun, minimum 6–8 hours daily
Soil: Loose, well-draining sandy-loam soil free of stones, enriched with organic matter, pH 6.0–7.0
Spacing: 8–10 cm between plants, with rows 30–45 cm apart
Germination: 5–10 days. Soak seeds in water for 6–12 hours before planting to improve germination rate

Roots are best harvested when they reach 5–8 cm in diameter for optimal tenderness and flavour. Younger leaves can also be harvested and used as a nutritious leafy vegetable.

Yields will vary depending on soil quality, rainfall, irrigation, and farm management practices.
