Days to first harvest: 30–45 days from sowing
Optimal temperature: 15°C–25°C — performs best in cooler to moderate conditions and adapts to Zambia’s climate with proper watering.
Lifespan: Short-cycle crop, but continuous harvesting of outer leaves encourages extended production
Sunlight: Full sun to partial shade, minimum 4–6 hours daily
Soil: Well-draining, fertile soil rich in organic matter, pH 6.0–7.5
Spacing: 15–25 cm between plants, with rows 30–45 cm apart
Germination: 5–10 days. Soak seeds in water for 6–12 hours before planting to improve germination rate
Leaves are best harvested when young and tender for optimal taste and texture. Regular harvesting promotes continuous leaf production.
