African Egg Plant (Solanum aethiopicum | Heirloom | Non-GMO)
A highly productive and resilient traditional African vegetable, known for its adaptability and consistent yields. Plants produce abundant clusters of medium size, round fruits and perform well under a wide range of growing conditions, making them ideal for both home consumption and market production.

Days to first harvest: 60-80 days from sowing
Optimal temperature: 22°C-30°C, well suited to Zambia’s warm climate
Lifespan: In Zambia’s conditions, plants can continue producing for several months. With good care and pruning, productivity can be extended for multiple harvest cycles
Sunlight: Full sun, minimum 6-8 hours daily
Soil: Well-draining, fertile sandy-loam soil enriched with organic matter, pH 5.5-6.8
Spacing: 45-60 cm between plants, with rows 75-100 cm apart
Germination: 7-14 days. Seeds can be soaked in water for 12-24 hours before planting to improve germination rate

Fruits are best harvested when firm and glossy, typically at a young stage for optimal taste and texture. Harvest regularly to encourage continuous fruit production.

Yields will vary depending on soil quality, rainfall, irrigation, and farm management practices.
